Darol Rodrock Foundation Announces Sponsorship by Johnson County Young Matrons
Johnson County Young Matrons, JCYM, was organized in 1961 by fifty-one women. It is an all-volunteer women’s non-profit service organization dedicated to philanthropic and educational service to Johnson County. Over the years, JCYM has contributed over $3,000,000 from fundraising events to a wide variety of organizations and over 20,000 volunteer hours annually. What makes JCYM unique is that 100% of our fund-raising proceeds go to our philanthropies.
JCYM Gives Back to Community
Philanthropy has been the foundation of JCYM from the beginning. JCYM has offered support for numerous philanthropies, often creating programs to fill needs that are identified in the community. This was first illustrated when, in 1972, members voted to donate the money they had been saving for a clubhouse to meet an urgent need for emergency shelter for children. Members purchased a home, staffed it, and Temporary Lodging for Children, now Kids TLC was born.
A second example of recognition of a community need was the sponsorship and partnership in 2018 of the Rodrock Foundation, dedicated to children aging out of the Foster Care System, as JCYM’s newest philanthropy. JCYM members will volunteer for a variety of Rodrock Foundation projects such as the Christmas Holiday Party, monthly birthday parties, high school graduation celebrations, care packages for Foster Youth going to college and filling back packs for the beginning of school in the fall.
In addition to these projects, JCYM’s over 200 members provide support to six other philanthropies through financial donations, over 60 service projects annually and educational scholarships. Currently, JCYM focuses on the following organizations:
- Kids TLC, Inc.
- Evergreen Living Innovations, Inc.
- Friends of Shawnee Indian Mission
- Growing Futures Early Education Center (formerly Head Start of Shawnee Mission)
- Johnson County Christmas Bureau
- SAFEHOME, Inc.
- Darol Rodrock Foundation
Through these organizations JCYM provides support ranging from infants at Growing Futures to senior citizens at Evergreen Living Innovations.
